New Delhi. What can be regarded as a ray of hope in otherwise an unproductive parliament session, Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha Mr. Digvijay Singh has said, “We will allow the smooth passage of the bill in Rajya Sabha, only if a separate provision declaring Rahul Baba as a juvenile is included.” Reacting to this Prime Minister Mr. Modi tweeted, “While we have always maintained that Rahul is a juvenile, same cannot be included into the said legislation”.
Child expert Enakshi Ganguly Thukral, co-founder of Haq– Centre for Child Rights said, “Age and weight of a person does not necessarily mean that a person is not a juvenile. There are many cases is India, which prove otherwise can also be true. Examples of Rahul, Salman, and Kejriwal are well-known to all”, he added.
According to legal experts, “The problem with including such a provision in the legislation is that Rahul may take harbor of this provision in future against the government. He will disrupt the proceeding in the parliament and no one will be able to stop him”, a close associate to Hamid Ansari is reported to have said during an emergency meeting called at Ansari’s house.
“While the US is considering inclusion of such provision for Donald Trump in their juvenile legislation, such provision will cause havoc in India”, Shashi Tharoor said during a talk show.
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal has threatened to start an agitation, if his name is not included in the proposed provision. He said that he has done a lot more than Rahul to deserve a mention in the juvenile law.
During a press conference called at the last hour at 24, Akbar road, Mr Digvijay Singh challenged Mr. Subramanian Swamy to produce the documents which prove that Rahul is a juvenile, as claimed earlier by Mr. Swamy.
Replying to this during an interview with NDTV, Mr Swamy said, “I say a lot of things, how can they ask me such a childish thing? Most of the times even I don’t believe what I say”.
In a positive development, Prime Minister Mr. Modi has invited Sonia for tea and Rahul for “milk” at his house in the evening, hinting a compromise may be reached on the bill sooner than expected.
