No need of bus stops when bus is stopping in front of every building, BMTC suggest Govt to remove all bus stops in Bangalore

Starting from New Year, there is some good news in store for Bangaloreans especially those who use BMTC service. Unlike BBMP which has failed miserably in providing door to door garbage collection, BMTC is planning to provide door to door pick up and drop service for bus commuters, at least for the ones who are staying on the roads where BMTC buses ply.

Removal of bus stands would also widen the road

Removal of bus stands would also widen the road

We spoke to BMTC chairman Mr. Naveen Jain to get more details about this plan. Mr. Jain said, “Unlike BBMP which does not have proper system in place to support door to door garbage collection, we can utilize the infrastructure which is already in place to support this. Though we have not announced it publicly, door to door pick up & drop service we are providing on the stretch from Marathahalli to WhiteField for last five to six years. Now time has come to cover the full city with this unique service which of course will be the first in India”.

When we asked Mr. Jain whether the full city has the necessary infrastructure to support this initiative from Jan 1st? Mr. Jain said “Our original plan was to launch this from 2017. I would like to thank BBMP & BDA who have done a stupendous job of advancing it by one full year. They have not been partial in maintaining some roads and neglecting some. Throughout the city they have ensured all our roads remain in same poor condition. Also this year rain have helped us in increasing the pothole density in our roads to all time high. All these are helping our buses to stand in front of every building for some time”.

Mr. Jain added, “I have suggested Government to remove the bus stops. They are unnecessarily creating confusion in minds of people who are still obeying traffic rules. For so many years our drivers, conductors are stopping the buses wherever they see passenger, rather than at stipulated bus stops. Our commuters are equally smart, they get in and get down wherever they want. While getting in, it is a matter of timing your jump so that 2 inch of your feet come on the foot board which is enough to balance yourself. Similarly most of our commuters have necessary understanding of relative velocity which comes handy while jumping out wherever they want before conductor could catch them to ask for ticket”.

We spoke to veteran BMTC user Mr. Kasirajan to know his reaction. Mr. Kasirajan said, “Thanks to this unique initiative, starting from Jan 1st, I will know exactly how much time the bus will take to reach to office, also on the way back to my home. Now I can plan everything nicely, there would not be any uncertainty”.

Mr. Kasirajan has gone ahead and wished BMTC in their FB page with message #longliveBMTC & #longliveBangaloreTraffic.
