Government has launched various schemes and campaigns for uplifting rural population, keeping country clean, promoting new businesses ideas, etc.
Digital India campaign aims at digitizing whole nation, from villages to cities, government offices to schools, providing high speed internet, promoting e-services, ease of access, paperless documentations etc. Government is set to introduce another scheme under Digital India called Pradhanmantri Update Vitran Yojana (PMUVY). This scheme will be launched on 10th of March by our Hon. Prime Minister.
PMUVY aims at distribution of freeware/ shareware/ paid software monthly updates to laptop and desktop owners all over India. This scheme aims at providing up-to- date security and bug-free systems and software. With rise in cyber-attacks in recent 5 years, desktops and laptops are considered as equal targets as websites, which can lead to information leak, revenge hacks, and work as a host for hacking attempts. While high-speed broadband lines are spreading in every corner of India, this scheme will be active for 3 years.
With approvals from over 5000 freeware & 1800 paid software developing companies, Linux foundation and open-source community, government is set to provide software updates which will be chargeable at Rs. 1 per device. For paid software, user has to produce purchase receipt (hardcopy or softcopy) at centre and wait for confirmation from provider’s side in order to update, charges will be Rs. 5 per device. This scheme is only for citizens of India including anti-nationalists. NRIs and travelers will not be eligible for this scheme.
There will be no charge for school & coaching students as a part of revised reservation quota for this scheme.
One can approach to nearest Aadhar card center and affiliates and register for this scheme. User can also opt for sms/E-mail update whenever any update rolls out at the center. Eligible Software types includes audio/video playing software, browsers, free/paid antiviruses, Java, Flashplayer, photo editing, video editing, software development software, web design and development software, design software, file compressing software, document reader software and desktop sharing software.
Operating System currently includes Linux (DEB and RPM Packages) based open source OS’s Ubuntu (all flavors), Open-Suse, Kali Linux andCentOS. Windows users have to obtain a authorization code from Microsoft for update which will be done at center every time windows needs to update.
Launch is scheduled for 10th of March, 11:00 AM at Aadhar Card Office, Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi. The scheme will be inaugurated by updating Microsoft Internet Explorer.
