TV to become an extinct commodity in Pakistan after a few more World Cups

After another routine victory of India against Pakistan in a Cricket World Cup clash last night, expert cricket commentators have jointly predicted that TV will not be a rarely seen commodity in Pakistan by the next few world cups. This is based on the continued angry reactions of Pakistani cricket fans after India Pakistan matches and Pakistan unsuccessful card against India in the World Cups.

This thought was ignited by merciless ex-Indian batsmen Virender Sehwag who said after the match, “Is baar to Pakistan ke saare TV gaye“.

However, it is reported that still little over 1 crore TVs exist in Pakistani houses reducing from a 5 crore before the 1992 World Cup. The bulk of the remaining TVs include newly bought expensive new-generation smart TVs. To add to the prediction made by the cricket commentators, an investigation conducted by the ICC indicated similar prognosis.

In response to this, Pakistan speed-star Shoaib Akhtar said, “Pakistan fans are not angry with the team’s performance. They numbers only indicate that people of the country are saying good bye to the old TVs and welcoming the new new technologies”. It is not hard to guess why this tech update is celebrated in Pakistan after World Cup matches against India.

While increasing number of televisions are smashed every time in Pakistan, TV manufacturers look at Pakistan as a never-saturating market opportunity where they can sell new TVs at the start of very World Cup. However, TV manufacturers have failed to maintain a stable number of TVs in Pakistan.

TV company Sony believes that a Pakistan victory can have a negative impact in the sale of their new TVs in Pakistan. Though such a result is improbable, a rain-washed match is a bigger fear for the Television giant. On the other hand, Micromax launched their cheap small-life TV which are designed especially for short time usage in Pakistan.

Cricket has always been a game of uncertainties but the result of the match between these two rivals in a World Cup is defying this fundamental character of the game. The results of such matches are so easy to predict that ICC may handover the World Cup to the Indian team after they win semis if their final is against Pakistan some day. This would also help save the last few TVs in Pakistan.
