Dhoni docked 20 percent of match fee for not finishing match with a six

Mohali: Sunday night when Mahendra Singh Dhoni sent the ball for a boundary, 1.25 billion Indians (give and take a few) started dancing with joy. But MSD’s joy was short lived as ICC found him having breached article 66.6 of ICC code of conduct which relates to not finishing the match with a six. Since this happened for the second time within span of 10 days, Dhoni was asked to report to match referee R S Madugalle’s office.

"It has to be a six"

“It has to be a six”

In the exclusive interview, R S Madugalle explained, “Few days back in the match against Pakistan Dhoni hit a six when 7 runs were required and then took a single. At that time he was let off with a warning as we found merit in his argument that he miscalculated the target. Yesterday was his second offense in less than a month’s time. So we deducted 20% match fee and issued a show cause notice asking him to explain why ICC should not initiate further action against him”.

Our reporter Shaitaan Khopdi™ overheard the conversation that happened between MSD and match referee. Based on his fragile memory he has produced following transcript:

In the meeting MSD started with saying, “I know you aren’t happy that India won today.” Match referee tried to clarify, but Dhoni cut him short and added firmly, “Listen to me. Hearing you, your tone and your question, it’s clear that you aren’t happy that India has won. And when talking about finishing a cricket match, there’s no script. It’s not about the script. You have to analyze how many runs are needed, who is the bowler, how is the field set. If you aren’t analyzing these things sitting outside, then you shouldn’t ask this question.”

Although match referee was taken aback by this response, ICC has decided not to press the matter further. “Look, if I take any action and suspend Dhoni for semi-final, Virat Kohli will become the captain and god knows what he will do if he gets angry. So we are burying this matter here itself.”

Commenting on the issue, Ravi Shastri came out with all guns blazing in support of captain cool. He said, “Bangladesh tried winning with a six when they needed 2, and see what happened. MSD had back pain and was attended by the physio on field. I am sure he did just what the doctor ordered. Had he gone for glory shots, all 3 results were possible.”

Ravi Shastri was still going on and on and was trying hard to insert ‘Tracer Bullet’ cliché in his response when Faking News reporter switched off the mic and made his move. From a distance he could hear Ravi still screaming, “I hit that bugger out of the park. He went out like a Tracer Bullet.”
