National School of Drama applauds Smriti Irani speech, calls it ‘act of the century’

“We’ve seen the best light the stage up, but that was leagues apart,” says Vidya, a student of the National School of Drama, after watching Smriti Irani’s complete speech.

Undisclosed sources revealed that the head panel of the most prestigious acting school in the country called it the ‘act of the century’.

Waving aside major factual errors and irrelevant mud-slinging in Smriti Irani’s speech, a spokesperson from the NSD said, “Name one politician who doesn’t make factual errors when lashing out at the opposition while speaking on national issues? If we start going after our Ministers for making errors, we will shut them all up. How will the media survive then? You have to think it through.”

Ananya, another student from NSD, had this to share, “Rahul Gandhi has inspired emerging celebrity politicians to say dumb things. We should discuss him instead of criticizing Smriti Ma’am.”

At a time when divisive politics is crouching towards our democracy to hunt it down, major sects of the society are busy defending their version of nationalism. Student politicians are becoming the wrong kind of symbols and agenda politics is driving us back to Babri Era.

“Smriti Irani, with all her magnificent theatrics, has helped the country forget major shortcomings of the government. Is anyone talking about farmer suicides anymore? Is anyone discussing the new spying software the government is launching? No discussions on the increasing interference of the government in schools of art, science, and politics. It was a clever move from Smriti ji, you have to give it to her!” said a contact deep in the government who chose not to be named.

Well, the show, as they say, must go on. Now that Smriti’s performance is over, let’s wait for the next performer to woo us with false promises and unimpressive monologues.  Till then, Bharat Mata Ki Jai!
