Bangalore. The Net Neutrality debate took an unexpected turn this Monday when IT workers from top MNCs came out to protest and demanded unblocking of porn sites at work claiming that it violated the principles of network neutrality.
Net Neutrality, for the uninitiated, is the idea that all data traffic passing through networks should be treated as same, irrespective of the source or destination. In other words, network operators should see all services as equal.
Why double standards on Net Neutrality?
This reporter was at protest site where Mahesh Babu of Infee software said, “We are only demanding unblocking of porn sites because we are in absolute support of Net Neutrality. We’d never watch porn at work. Really. Arre, Serious saar, trust no.”
Meanwhile, Ram Ratan Shukla of TeeSeeYuss Software was more upfront and accepted he’d indeed like to watch porn at work, saying, “I am on bench for last 4.5 years, there are so many of us on bench now. We are sometimes 3 people on one bench now. Least they can do is give us basic utilities like porn at work.”
Faking News talked to IT employee welfare Association president Narayan Moorthy who said, “It is a just demand, especially for those on bench. They are demoralised and their onsite friends call them Bench-ods, in fact, the benching norms are so unfair, IT sector needs a BenchNeutrality movement of its own.”
No political party or comedian or activist had come out in support of this demand by IT workers till this report was filed.
