Rohit and Dhawan practice Hit-Wicket in nets after Sammy said West Indies won’t get them out

Mumbai: Before India’s World Cup semifinal encounter with the West Indies, Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are busy practicing Hit-Wicket dismissal in the nets. They have resorted to this unique net practice after West Indian skipper Darren Sammy said that they don’t plan to get the Indian openers out.

Darren Sammy had threatened to not take the wickets of Indian openers after someone asked what their plan to stop Virat Kohli is. Now, Indian openers are preparing to thwart West Indian plans during the semifinal match.

Rohit and Dhawan have both struggled for runs during the ongoing World T20 while Virat Kohli has been in scintillating form powering India through to the semifinals.

“50% of the cricket is played in the mind and this is just our strategy to outthink the opposition”, Rohit Sharma said. He further added, “West Indies team must be preparing to drop catches, miss run outs and not bowl at the stumps but we will foil all their plans by simply hitting the wickets with our bat.”

Rohit’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan joined in and explained the rationale behind their decision to get out hit-wicket. He said, “Cricket is a team game and every team member must contribute towards the success of the side. Since we aren’t doing much by staying out there, we will get ourselves out as quickly as possible to get Virat Kohli in so that he can win another game on his own.”

When we asked why are they practicing for it when it is so simple to just hit the stumps with the bat, Rohit explained, “See it has to look like a genuine batting mistake else ICC corruption committee may see it as an incident of spot fixing if the dismissal looks very deliberate. I don’t want to get penalized for contributing to the team success.”

Meanwhile, Yograj Singh has criticized MS Dhoni for never getting out hit-wicket to give more batting to his son Yuvraj Singh.
