Now DMK Chief Karunanidhi wants ‘Jaya’ removed from national anthem

Chennai: Just a day after Kalyan Singh asked for the word ‘adhinayaka’ to be removed from national anthem, DMK Chief Karunanidhi has asked for the word ‘Jaya’ to be removed. Speaking to his party workers at his residence he made this demand.

The DMK chief said, “The national anthem has 10 instances of the word Jaya. I am asking why should a Chief Minister’s name be included in the national anthem. What is so great that she has done for the country? We already have Amma Canteen, Amma Water, Amma Salt and not to mention Jaya TV. Now she wants to be part of national anthem. We will not let this happen. This is the start of fascism.”

Representatives from the party are planning to send a letter to PM Narendra Modi asking him to delete the word ‘Jaya’ from the anthem. The party is also planning to go on 1 day token fast as mark of protest. It is not clear if DMK chief will be part of this fast.

Meanwhile, AIADMK party workers were happy that the country has finally realized the greatness of Amma. Some were of the opinion that instead of just ‘Jaya’, her entire name ‘Jayalalitha’ should be used in the anthem. Others have threatened self-immolation if the word ‘Jaya’ is deleted from the anthem.
