Delhi: A day after his World Cup winning exploits against England, Carlos Brathwaite was in for a shock as Delhi daredevils informed him that he is no longer a part of their squad for the upcoming IPL.
Delhi had bought Brathwaite for 4.2 Crores during the IPL auction but team management has concluded that he is not a natural fit for them after his performance in the World T20 final.
Carlos Brathwaite hit 4 successive sixes to win the World Cup final against England after West Indies needed 19 off the last over. While these sixes brought great joy to the West Indies, it left the Delhi daredevils management seriously worried.
“We bought him because we thought he will help us achieve our aim of finishing 7th or 8th but yesterday’s performance was a shocker. This man may end up actually winning some games for us and lift us higher in the table than our target. We had earlier gotten rid of players like AB de Villiers, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Andre Russell etc for their match winning abilities and now will be doing the same with Brathwaite”, said a senior member of Delhi Daredevils management.
“Since we can’t sell him right now as the window is closed, we have asked him to spend the next few weeks in the Caribbean and stay away from the rest of the squad. Who knows, maybe this match winning ability will get transferred to other players if he stays with the team. We are training well to finish last in the league and any distractions may end up pushing us higher in the table”, he went on to add.
Though Brathwaite was unavailable for comment, as per our sources, he is thoroughly confused with this decision.
Delhi management has also asked IPL governing body whether they can replace Brathwaite with Ben Stokes but this request has been denied.
