Mumbai: Neil Patrick Harris who is popularly known as the Neil Nitin Mukesh of Hollywood has bagged a role in Diya aur Baati Hum, a popular soap on Indian television.
The Hollywood star spoke to Faking News reporter in an exclusive chat and said, “Totally thrilled at being part of ‘Diya and Baati’. Have watched every episode and now I get to be a part of it. I love Indian culture, the food the colours and the people here are so nice.”
When asked if he had any favorites when it came to India he said, “Sachin Tendulkar is my favorite cricketer and Shahrukh Khan is my favorite actor.”
In fact very few people know that NPH is a big fan of Hindi TV serials. “I have been hooked on since the days of ‘Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. I cried when Mihir died and Tulsi was all alone by herself. I am a big fan of Smriti Irani. In fact I met her when she came to US to collect her Yale degree,” he said with a smile.
The producers of Diya aur Baati have already started working on the script and training NPH so that he gets the accent correct. “We are working hard on NPH’s accent so that it doesn’t sound miserable like Priyanka Chopra’s in Quantico. So we have asked him to watch lot of Katrina Kaif movies,” said an assistant director who is part of the show.
“Indian TV serials involve a lot of drama which American soaps are devoid of and this was a challenge for us. But then we asked him to watch a few NewsHour debates and now he does it effortlessly,” he continued.
Meanwhile, a few ‘intolerant people’ were seen protesting against the invasion by Hollywood and asked NPH to leave India immediately. “Yes a few people from a local political party came to our office and protested against hollywoodisation of Indian soaps. For now we have changed NPH’s name to Neil Pratik Harish, maybe that will appease them for the time being,” said the producer.
