Mumbai: Telecom company Idea is planning to close down its ambitious ‘online university’ IIN, after it did not receive a single message of gratitude from any of its subscribers on Teachers Day.
Uncertain future of IIN students
Speaking to Faking News, Rajeev Sharma, Product Head at Idea explained as to why the company decided to close down IIN.
He said, “We have been imparting education to millions of our subscribers for quite some time now. We believe many of them have benefited from our endeavor. Probably some of them have even gone to become scientists. But it is Teachers Day today and we haven’t received a single message from any of our students. How can they conveniently forget our contribution to their success?”
After the news of shutdown went public, students at IIN were a worried lot. How can they close the institute without giving us any kind of intimation? Mera placement abhi hua nahi aur bank se loan bhi liya hai. Mere future ka kya hoga,” questioned a worried second year student at IIN.
The news spread quickly on social media with twitterati trolling IIN for coming up with a flimsy excuse to shut down its non-profitable ‘online university’, with some even comparing it to IIPM.
“I am devastated with the news. I had paid lakhs for admission to IIPM and it closed down. Since I had no money to study further, I got myself admitted to IIN and now this too is closing down,” said another student.
Meanwhile, industry sources tell us that the decision to close down was purely a business decision. IIN was losing market to IIM.
“With IIMs and IITs cropping up like weed, there was absolutely no chance for IIN. We have come to know that the government is planning to come up with IIM Diu and IIM Daman also. How do you expect other institutes to survive? asked an industry insider.
Company spokesperson however refuted that it was a business decision and even faculty members agreed.
“It hurts when our student’s don’t have courtesy to thank us for all that we have done for them. Maybe we should have taught them a few courses on Expressing Gratitude”, said a faculty member at IIN.
