Mumbai: The nomination of little known Marathi movie ‘Court’ as India’s official entry for Oscars has sent shock waves across Bollywood.
Why no Bollywood movie for Oscar 2015?
If sources are to be believed, many from the fraternity are not happy with the fact that a Bollywood movie was not sent as the official entry.
“Bollywood produces more than 100 movies in a year. Are you telling me there is not a single movie worthy of being shortlisted? This year was particularly good and we had so many 100Cr movies and they decide to send a movie that is not even 1Cr. They are all 2Rs people,” said a self proclaimed movie reviewer and critic.
“They didn’t even care to see how many stars I have given. That shows how much they know about movie making,” said a visibly upset Taran Adarsh.
Gajendra Chauhan, Chairman of FTII and star of movies like ‘Jungle ka Beta’ and ‘Jawani Janeman’, was unhappy too. “If this IIFT fiasco hadn’t happened, I had plans to send my movie for Oscars. Feel bad that I contributed ‘so much’ to this industry and haven’t got anything in return,” he said.
A bollywood producer we spoke to got nostalgic and said that he missed the good old days when even movies like Jeans were nominated for Oscars.
Our reporter also interacted with fans of bollywood actor Salman Khan to know what they felt about the nomination. Sarfaraz bhai, an ardent fan of the actor said, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the biggest blockbuster of 2015. Why it was not sent? I am sure if they would have sent it, the move would have definitely won an Oscar.”
When asked what made him so confident of an award, he said, “Bhai is an expert when dealing with judges. Did you not see how he walked out of the court few months back without spending a second in jail? I have no doubt that if Bajrangi Bhaijaan would have been nominated as the official entry, Bhai would have influenced the jury there too and India would have had its first Oscar.”
