Ahmedabad. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today repeated a quote attributed to Albert Einstein, though in a manner that it was his original quote, but still failed to get appreciation for it.
“Very soon people will think that Mahatma Gandhi was not a real person,” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a small gathering at Gandhi Ashram in Sabarmati earlier today.
He was just repeating Albert Einstein, who in 1939 had said “Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this Earth” while referring to Mahatma Gandhi.
“LOL! Forget Mahatma Gandhi, we think you are not real, Pappu!” said one of the tweets mocking Rahul Gandh’s statement. It was re-tweeted 137 times at the time of filing this report.
Similar tweets, such as “Does Pappu think that people will turn dumb like him who will doubt Gandhiji’s existence? #YoRahulSoDumb” and “There are two Gandhijis – one real and one virtual #PappuLogic”, were widely circulated as Facebook updates and SMS jokes as Rahul Gandhi was slammed for making another “stupid statement”.
The incident comes close to Rahul Gandhi being mocked at for saying “Poverty is a state of mind” even though such ideas were expressed earlier by many people.
“It no longer matters whether he says something while sporting a serious beard of after getting a youthful shave, people are now programmed to laugh at him,” an expert pointed out.
“Similar to Faking News, where people keep on saying ‘but this is not fake’ even though it has been clearly mentioned on your website,” the expert further added, after which we ended the interview, perhaps feeling a bit indignant at being compared with Rahul Gandhi – thus proving the expert right to an extent.
When we talked to a few people if they would still laugh at Rahul Gandhi’s latest statement after knowing that the statement was originally issued by Albert Einstein, we got mixed reviews.
“He should have clarified that he was repeating Einstein! Tweet chor!” one guy busy making jokes on Rahul Gandhi said.
“Of course!” said another guy, “Won’t you laugh if you see KRK repeating romantic dialogues of SRK? Wouldn’t romance turn into comedy? Same is the case here!”
