Patna. Soon after well-known author Chetan Bhagat announced the name and plot of his upcoming novel, scriptwriter of a not-well-known Bhojpuri movie ‘Bihari Babu Vilayati Mem‘ accused Chetan of picking up his movie story and using it in his book.
Bhagat’s next book ‘Half Girlfriend’ is a love story set in Bihar. The synopsis of the book reads, “Once upon a time, there was a Bihari boy called Madhav. He fell in love with a girl called Riya. Madhav didn’t speak English well. Riya did. Riya just wanted friendship. Madhav didn’t. Riya suggested a compromise. She agreed to be his half-girlfriend.”
Anurag Shukla, writer of ‘Bihari Babu Vilayati Mem‘, claims that even his story has similar plot.
“It’s a love story of a Bihari village boy Rakesh, who falls in love with a London educated Priya who is visiting her village to meet her grandparents,” Anurag told Faking News.
Anurag further claimed that even name of Bhagat’s book is inspired from name of another movie ‘Saali Aadhi Gharwaali‘.
While Anurag’s allegations are yet to be debated on TV, Chetan Bhagat has called his story as fresh as vegetables at a grocery shop (sic.).
“I have never ever watched a Bhojpuri movie in my whole life. For god’s sake, I am an IIT-IIM graduate!” Bhagat tweeted, leading to outrage against him for being elitist. The elitists were spearheading the protests till reports last came in.
Sources tell Faking News that Anurag Shukla could be an agent of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who was earlier accused by Chetan Bhagat of using his story in 3 idiots without giving him proper credit.
“Vidhu is getting even with Chetan,” a source claimed, “And what more, this could be a ploy to kill any possibility of Chetan using his book to write script of a new movie.”
Meanwhile, in order to counter its e-commerce business competitor Flipkart, which is taking exclusive pre-orders of ‘Half-Girlfriend’, Amazon has bagged exclusive right to sell ‘Bihari Babu Vilayati Mem‘ DVDs.
