Karachi. After yesterday’s ODI loss to Australia, Pakistan have now become firm favourites to win 2015 ODI world cup if bookies are to be believed.
Bookies were closely following Pak-Aus 3 match ODI series, before announcing world cup favourites. And after Pakistan’s whitewash by 3-0, they were more than convinced about Pakistan clinching world cup title.
“Pakistan’s USP is their unpredictability, because of which they have won most of those matches where nobody gave them a chance,” argued an elated bookie.
This series was last opportunity for Pakistan to hone their unpredictability skills before the next world cup and bookies are of the opinion that Pakistan team sized it with aplomb.
“Not only did they lose all ODIs but the manner in which they lost the last one comfortably from winning position by 1 run was vintage stuff from Pakistan,” said a bookie recalling Pak’s most controversial defeats.
The outcome of the series has now made cricket experts completely write off Pakistan for the world cup.
“But this is where Pakistan does best,” reasoned a bookie from Multan, “They are pro at writing off careers of experts who write them off by winning the matches where they are written off.”
Bookies further pointed to the venue of world cup to strengthen their argument.
“World cup is taking place in Australia/New Zealand, same place where Pakistan’s unpredictability first came to fore in 1992 when they stunned everyone by winning world cup,” pointed another bookie.
“I feel this is some sign from allah and insha allah, history will repeat itself,” added the bookie who is also part time PCB official.
Pakistan captain Misbah Ul Haq also hailed his teammates for winning back trust of bookies.
“Boys have won faith of the very community because of whom stoves in our homes are burning,” he said wiping off his tears.
“Fans are temporary, bookies are permanent,” he stated when asked if winning trust of fans was not important.
